Chapter 1
*Why is Kirsti not afraid of the soldiers?
She was not not afraid of the solders when they stopped them on the road because she did not really understand why they were there so she did not really think anything of it. Also they were giving her compliments so she was not scared.
*How would you have felt if you had been Annemarie when the soldiers spoke to her? Why?
I would have felt scared at first because you would not know what they were going to do to you and they have guns which is scary. I think that would be scary, but I think after you were sure they were not going to hurt you I don't think that would be to to bad.

I think he did make a good desicion. I think that because Annemarie's Dad said that would not have been enough solders to fight . Also many people would die because they would have a very small army and the German's have a very large army.

I'm not exactually sure what I would do. I think its different to die for someone you do not no very well like a leader of your country instead of someone such as your family. If I did not know the leader and didn't exactually like what he did with the country I would probably not die to protect them.
What happened to Annemarie's older sister Lise?
Lise died two days before her she was going to get married to Peter. She died in an accident it doesn't say what type of accident though.
How has Annemarie's family changed after the death of Lise?
Lise fiance, Peter, never joked anymore or lingered. Annemarie's father seemed older and very tired sense her death. They never spoke of her, but Annemarie always went and looked in her old trunk to remember her.

Chapter one which is labeled "Why are you runnning." They are runnning because they are having a race to see who can get to there apartment building the quickest. Chapter two is labeled "who is the man who rides past." The man who rides past each day is the king. Chapter three is labeled "who is Mrs. Hirsch." Mrs. Hirsch is a Jewish women who owns a button shop.
The title of this chapter is "It Will Be a Long Night." Why was it a long night?
It is a long night because the solders come to Annemarie's house and looks around very early in the morning.
Why does Ellen spend the night with Annemarie?
She spends the night with Annemarie because the german soilders are looking for the Jewish families and they recieved a list of were they all lived. So Peter finds a place for Ellen's parents to find while, Ellen stays at Annemarie's house until it is safe to go back to her home.

They come to there apartment because they think that Ellen and her family are hiding in there home.

I think that they felt scared on what was going to happen and if they were going to be safe.

When Annemarie's uncle did not tell her what was going on even when she knew that her great aunt didnt even exist. I think that it is a possibility that she will meet solders. Usually in a book there is an event that adds suspence to the book so I think that she will come face to face with solders.

That waiting isn't always easy and can be nerve racking or you can get inpatient

Then, she is relieved to see her mom but is scared and worried because she was laying on the ground and she said that she thought she broke her ankle.

They all went into the unoccupied apartments open there windows and hung a symbol of freedom there.

Peter got caught by the Nazi's and went to there prison and the next day they shot him. Lise was in the resistance and some how the Nazi's found out about one of there meetings she got away but one of the cars the soldiers were driving in saw her running away and drove her over.

Annemarie hid Ellen's necklace in the pocket of the yellow dress her sister, Lise worn on the day she had her engament party. The dress was kept in a trunk along with other dresses of Lise.

The Nazi's did take over Denmark and many other areas. The story in this book that had to do with Ellen was a story that wasnt totally true but, what happened to her is just like what happen to many Jew's back then. Many people that were not Jews helped out just like how people helped out in this book. They would find them a place to hide, food to eat, and clothes to wear. They would also try to get them all to Sweden so they would have freedom. Peter in this book was a very kind and courages man and would literally do anything to help others. He tryed to get who ever he could to Sweden. He got caught and died just like a very courages and kind man in real life. His name was Kim Malthe-Bruun.
